MFM: Hey, Christopher. How are you?

Chris: Always great, how are you? (MFM: Doing great as well!)

MFM: So, the question we always ask, how did you get into modeling?

Chris: I got into male modeling the fall of 2008 I believe, I did some small commercials and small print stuff growing up but during the fall of 2008 is when I really started making a career out of it. I was training one of my clients who had a friend who was a photographer and saw me and wanted to take pics, so we planned a weekend to drive and go see him. He had a nice studio and was very professional. We nailed some great shots and that’s all it took. He threw out some pics and all the comments and reviews started and it made me realize this could be something big.

MFM: Do you enjoy modeling? Do you enjoy the ride?

Chris: I do I do. I will say it’s a complete lifestyle. Being a personal trainer helps me stay in “photoshoot form” all the time year round, but it does take a toll on you. Always making each and every shot I take better and better is what drives me. So to anwser the question, I personally think I have just put my seat belt and the ride has not even begun :)

MFM: And among all those experiences, which of them do you consider the best?

Chris: I personally consider the NorCalBodz shoot one of the best. The weather and drive and passion of the photographer has made me much better. We really hit it off. To have such bond with a photographer is key to a great shoot.

MFM: How long have you been modeling?

Chris: Since I was in 5th grade. I started with small print stuff, catalogs, and clips. Although the last 2 years is when I have really broke through as a male model. Getting a lot more jobs with a lot more bigger companies.

MFM: Can you give an assessment of the industry? How do you find the lifestyle of a male fitness model?

Chris: Hands down, the lifestyle of a male model, without a doubt, requires discipline. It’s all about knowing the features you have and running with them. Eat and train yourself for perfection day in and day out. It’s the hardest thing in the world, but if you want something bad enough you will do whatever it takes to get it

MFM: What else do you do aside from fitness modeling and being a personal trainer?

Chris: I love hanging out with my girlfriend. She means the world to me. The fact that she can put up with all the lifestyle of a male model is enough to know that she’s an amazing person. Sitting back, enjoying great weather and really soaking up the down time. The time to clear your head of all the rush rush that is the world.

MFM: What do you consider as your greatest accomplishment, in the physical training aspect?

Chris: I think my greatest accomplishment would have to be getting my body finally where I want it and knowing the science of how to get it in tip-top shape for whatever the photoshoot calls for. In this business that means, more than anything, preparing for what is to come. I’m also doing a CALVIN KLEIN try out and I’m not done yet [developing my body] because I want that BAD ;)

MFM: What inspires you to do what you do?

Chris: Hands down you guys, everyday people, and the way they look at me, talk to me, and understand the drive I have to accomplish any goal I set my mind to. Also the fact that if you know and feel something is going to cause a breakthrough for you in this business, then never EVER stop until it happens, because when it does the feeling will be worth the hard work you put into it.

MFM: Who do you consider your inspiration?

Chris: My inspirations in life have to be my family. My Mom and Dad have always been there for me and have given me anything I ever wanted, even when I didn’t need it. My sister, Shannon, because without her I wouldn’t have that person to talk to about anything and everything. Without a doubt, my girlfriend Cassandra. She is there when I come home day in and day out. Always trying to make me a better person. The fact that she gives her time to me, which truly makes me smile, proves that there really are great people out there. It’s just a matter of where and when you are going to find them, and I know I found one.

MFM: Where do you see yourself in let’s say, a year?

Chris: In a year? I enjoy the life I have as a personal trainer and male model a lot, so I am going to the grind pushing away at this business in hopes something comes along that you just can’t pass up.

MFM: In five years?

Chris: Five years I would like to have my own gym and by then hopefully have a couple of magazines [with my feature or cover] to put up in the spare bedroom :) Staying in shape and networking with some of the greatest companies in the world to get where I wanna be in life: AT THE TOP.

MFM: Why do you think it’s so hard for people to get fit?

Chris: I believe it’s people just being lazy and not understanding the drive and heart you need to have to stay in shape. Yes, it’s hard. It’s the hardest thing in the world and that turns people off and they quit. I dont have time for people like that. I am a motivator and I know where I wanna go and some people just don’t and will never have the will to wanna change themselves.

MFM: What’s the first step they should do to be on track to having a fit and healthy body?

Chris: The first step is leaning up your diet. Getting on a great diet track is key to start in the right direction.

MFM: How can you help them?

Chris: I can help them by writing up a seven day, 6 meals a day diet plan. I write diet plans according to fitness goals for my clients all the time, if this is something you are interested in feel free to email at christopherspafford [at] hotmail.com and write down your height and weight. Also your goal weight and be realistic.

MFM: Where do you usually train?

Chris: I train at Ultimate Fitness in Hudson, Wisconsin. It’s a small box gym but it has everything I need to hit my goals. I also do personal training there.

Sherif Kamal: Free weights bring free muscles

July 30, 2010

sherif2 edit 150x150 Sherif Kamal: Free weights bring free muscles%Sherif Kamal is known as nature’s fitness model, strictly adhering to a lifestyle that consists of a raw diet. He is a raw food consultant, mental fitness coach, raw vegan athlete and fitness model competitor. You can get more of Sherif from his website and Facebook page.

What type of workout builds better quality muscle? Is it fancy machines or simple dumbbells? Most experienced bodybuilders will tell you that the base to building your body comes from using free weights.

Free weights help contract the muscle fibers, the core muscles, and help build a more symmetrical looking body. They also simulate natural lifting situations that stabilize the body. All of this promotes better control and form in your workout, which as a result, gives you the ability to build better quality muscles.

Not to knock cable machines-they have their uses. They are a great way to finish off a workout, to tweak a free weight exercise, or to help isolate certain muscles.

At the end of the day, cable machines to free weights are like supplements to real food. You can’t replace free weights with cable machines, just like you can’t replace real food with supplements.
