I have to admit, I lost my notes when I interviewed Guy Tang. As I was shuffling and fixing my notebooks last year, with a few of them having interviews of male fitness models scheduled for a feature on this blog, my scribbles and notes on my talk with Guy was misplaced! I have no idea where it is. However, I can honestly say that I completely remember the important gist of our discussion, and am hoping my memory will serve me well and will be enough to properly portray the core resolve and yearnings of a man with a mission. Though I lost my notes, I have not forgotten the story Guy has vehemently shared about his life’s mission.

Guy Tang is pushing the boundaries to break barriers. He is mightily intent in destroying the barriers that have been erected by people’s prejudice, stereotypes and world views. And he intends to do so with all his heart. Giving it his all and without having failure as an option for the end result.

Last December, I called him from my New York abode to inquire of his story. He just finished work and was about to eat dinner, but he was extremely kind and accommodating for the interview. Guy speaks with great authenticity and sincerity. He eloquently shared his great love for his cause; an aspiration and vision for Asian men which he calls, DestinAsian. He defines it as a quest to shatter stereotypes and misperceptions the world have on Asian men. By portraying himself as a guy (no pun intended) that breaks conventions, he takes away piece by piece the filthy scales that have clouted the world’s judgment on how Asian men must behave. Slowly, he is pushing the barriers that has kept the liberal Asian hunk to freely be himself.

His tactics are unconventional and not everyone agrees with him. It’s either you love Guy or you hate him. He is clear with his

intentions and there’s no doubt that he will use every arrow in his quiver to fulfill his goal of breaking the mold. One that will change the minds of people of on Asian guys. He believes, like all peoples, that Asian men can be sexy too. They can be anything they want to be. No one can limit and imposed on them how they should live their lives. Asian men are not only limited to being the smart, nice and nerdy good guys, but can also be wild hunks – with the boldness to flaunt a chiseled body and amazing face. He believes that Asian guys can be risky and edgy, and evolve as members of society who knows no bounds when it comes to expressing themselves. Through his videos, photos and sizzling crafting of words, Guy delivers his message that destroys the outdated paradigm on Asian men.

Guy Tang is paving the way for change. Slowly and through his work that is both edgy and risque, he enlightens the path to those men’s DestinAsian.
