Matt Ferro of FerroFitness.com is amongst the new breed of up and coming fitness models taking the stage this coming year to compete and get their respective Pro Cards. Matt shares with us his modeling journey below and what he aims to accomplish in the the year 2013! Make sure you like Matt’s Facebook Page to get regular updates about him.

I’ve always been a very athletic kid growing up and succeeded in many sports. However, I was pretty skinny to say the least being almost 6’3 and about 155lbs at 16. Once I hit about 16 years old I started hitting the gym pretty consistently and loved every second of it. With almost no muscle on my frame to start, I made it my goal to finally put on some size. Seeing as how I was so tall and skinny, it’s safe to say it took a whole lot of time for me to start putting on quality muscle. Regardless, I still loved hitting the gym and being active. Results are addicting. Being from just outside of Toronto, my city has a pretty big population, which ultimately meant there were a whole bunch of people at my local gym. Among the usual gym goers that were there, my gym housed a big population of fitness and bodybuilding competitors. I always took notice of these guys/girls and admired their physiques, dedication, and overall outlook on living healthy lifestyles. With a few years of training under my belt, I still had no where near the caliber of physique that these guys did, and to be honest, I didn’t know whether or not I ever could. I continued talk with them here and there and gather as much knowledge as I could on diet and routines. Luckily for me, I was taking Kinesiology at the University of McMaster at the time so I had a good background knowledge. But as anyone can tell you, the more knowledge the better. With their help I began to see some big improvements in my physique. After talking with a few of the competitors, I decided I was going to make it my goal to compete as a fitness model on my birthday about 7 months away.

From day one of contest prep I was hooked. With a proper meal plan and designing routines specific to my needs, I was seeing results 10x faster than I ever did before. Show day comes and I place 3rd in my first fitness competition at the WBFF Quebec Championships. From there, I kept progressing and noticed that others were coming up to me now and asking me for advice. This is where my love for the industry skyrocketed. I was now serving as a role model for others and helping them become active, reach their goals, live healthy lifestyles, and become happier. Competing is an amazing experience, but helping others in their lives and aiding them in reaching their goals is on a whole other level. This is what drives us. Here I am one year after my first show (also competed at the WBFF Worlds in August) and I have clients from around the world asking for my help and advice. Being an online and personal trainer is the most rewarding job out there. We get to help others live healthy, be active, and enjoy life.

What are my goals? Continuing my business as a online and personal trainer (for individuals, groups, and teams) is definitely a top priority as it is what I love to do. I also am still fully dedicated to the “competitor” aspect as that is my passion. I am currently training for the WBFF Montreal Pro-Am in April where I will fight for my Pro Card among a group of very talented and tough competitors. All in all, I love what I do and will continue helping others and competing as long as I possibly can!
