What type of workout builds better quality muscle? Is it fancy machines or simple dumbbells? Most experienced bodybuilders will tell you that the base to building your body comes from using free weights.

Free weights help contract the muscle fibers, the core muscles, and help build a more symmetrical looking body. They also simulate natural lifting situations that stabilize the body. All of this promotes better control and form in your workout, which as a result, gives you the ability to build better quality muscles.

Not to knock cable machines-they have their uses. They are a great way to finish off a workout, to tweak a free weight exercise, or to help isolate certain muscles.

At the end of the day, cable machines to free weights are like supplements to real food. You can’t replace free weights with cable machines, just like you can’t replace real food with supplements.
